How to Change PSN Name on PS4

Step-by-step instructions to change your PlayStation Online ID on a PS4 console, including availability checks and the 30-day previous ID option.

PS4 still supports Online ID changes through Account Management. The rules and first-change-free policy match other PlayStation platforms, even if menu labels differ slightly by system software version. Official guidance: change your Online ID.

Steps on PS4

Use the account you want to rename. Guest profiles will not help here.

  • Sign in on your PS4.
  • Go to Settings, then Account Management, then Account Information, then Profile, then Online ID.
  • Enter a new Online ID and continue when it shows as available.
  • Choose whether to show your previous Online ID for 30 days.
  • Confirm the change (and payment if this is not your free first rename).
  • Sign in again after the forced sign-out completes.

PS4-specific caution

Sony has long warned that some PS4 games may not fully support Online ID changes. Issues can include old names sticking in menus, progress or leaderboard weirdness, or (rarely) content and save problems on titles flagged with serious issues.

If a game breaks after renaming, PlayStation's usual advice is to revert to a previous Online ID for free and review their troubleshooting guides on Online ID change issues.

PS3 and PS Vita software is generally higher risk. If those libraries still matter to you, pause and read the tested-games notes before you rename.
