How to Change PSN Name on PS5

Steps on PS5 (official path)

Follow these in order. If a screen looks different, your system software may label a menu slightly differently, but the path below is the usual one.

• Sign in on the PS5 with the account you want to rename.
• Open Settings, then Users and Accounts, then Account, then Profile, then Online ID.
• Enter a new Online ID and confirm it is available.
• Choose whether to display your old Online ID next to the new one for 30 days.
• Select Order & Pay or confirm to finish (no charge on a qualifying first change).
• Sign back in on your devices after PlayStation signs you out.

Tips that save headaches

Type the name carefully. Capitalization is mainly for display styling. Uniqueness is about the underlying ID rules PlayStation applies, so CoolShadow and coolshadow are usually treated as the same claim.

If you play older PS4 discs or digital titles a lot, skim Sony's games tested information first. Titles flagged with serious issues are the ones where renaming is riskiest.

Have your friends list open somewhere. After the forced sign-out, you will want to message people who only knew the old ID.

If the menu is missing

Make sure you are on the correct user, your account can use Online ID change in your region, and any required email verification is complete.

You can also perform the same change from a browser under Account Management if the console path is stuck.

Family controls or console restrictions can hide edit options. Check those before you assume the feature is gone.
