Banned & Offensive PSN Names
PlayStation can block or force-change Online IDs that break community standards. Learn what to avoid and what happens if a name is reported.
Even a technically valid Online ID can be rejected or later changed if it violates PlayStation's Terms of Service or code of conduct. Hate speech, harassment, explicit sexual content, illegal references, and similar issues are the usual landmines.
There is no public master blocklist
Sony does not publish every blocked token. Moderation combines automated filters, reports, and human review. When in doubt, choose a name you would be comfortable seeing on a family-shared console screen.
Clever misspellings of banned words are still risky. If the intent is obvious, enforcement can still apply.
Edge case: a name that slides through create day one can still get forced later after reports. "It worked once" is not a shield.
