PSN Name Change Game Issues
Legacy game glitches after changing your PlayStation Online ID: what can break, how to reduce risk, and when to revert for free.
Most modern games handle Online ID changes fine, but PlayStation has long warned that some titles (especially certain PS4 games, and generally older PS3/PS Vita software) may show issues after a rename. Start with Sony's games tested pages before you rename if those libraries matter to you.
Problems players have reported / Sony has warned about
Not every game breaks. The risk is uneven, which is why the official tested list matters.
- Old Online ID still visible in some menus or leaderboards.
- Progress, saves, or trophy-related weirdness in unsupported titles.
- Parts of a game failing online or offline.
- Rare loss of access to some add-on content on high-risk titles.
Reduce risk before you rename
Check PlayStation's official games-tested pages for your region. Titles marked with serious issues are the ones where Sony often recommends not changing ID if you still care about that game's entitlements.
Upload or back up saves when the platform allows it, and inventory your most-played older games first.
I skip vanity renames when a weekly-played PS4 disc sits on the problem list. Not worth the headache.
If something breaks after you change
PlayStation says you can revert to a previous Online ID for free in many technical cases, and that reverting resolves most issues, though it may not restore every bit of lost progress or content. See Online ID change issues.
If you plan to revert, do it promptly, then re-test the affected games. Keep screenshots of errors if you need support.
Limitation: a free technical revert is not a free style swap loop. Use it to fix breakage.
