Core format rules (quick reference)

These are the filters most create/change screens enforce first. Fail any of them and you never get to the "is it taken?" question.

  • Length: 3 to 16 characters.
  • Must start with a letter.
  • Allowed: letters, numbers, hyphen (-), underscore (_).
  • Not allowed: spaces, emoji, most special symbols.
  • Should not match your account password.
  • Must be unique and not violate PlayStation's code of conduct.

Format vs policy

A name can be technically valid and still get rejected or later forced to Temp-xxxxxx if it breaks conduct rules. Availability checkers cannot promise policy approval. Only PlayStation's create/change flow (and moderation) can.

That gap surprises people. "Available" here means a format-plus-availability signal, not a lifetime policy blessing.
